 6.        Nelson’s Short-Term Nuggets

“Third Thessalonians”

On October 26 I left with four others headed for Kosovo.  It was a very uneventful (and that is the way we like to keep it) trip until we were about to land at Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.  It seems that it was snowing and quite hard, so the pilot was asked to fly to a secondary airport, and in our case it happened to be Thessalonica, Greece.  None of us had ever been to Greece, and on this particular day, had no desire to be there.  However, I have learned to just roll with the punches when you travel, and as it says in Philippians, be content wherever I find myself.  One of the team member’s name was Paul, and after landing, one of the other team members said to Paul, “it has been about 2000 years since you have written to your believers in Thessalonica, don’t you think you should write to them again?”  While we all laughed about it at the time, three days later during one of our devotionals, my Paul read his rendition of III Thessalonians.  It began something like this, “I Paul, a disgruntled traveler on Austrian Airlines, write to you my brethren ………….”  Other than our brief stay in Thessalonica, our trip to Kosovo was a success.  I believe that we all felt it an honor to be sidetracked in Thessalonica, one of the places mentioned often in the New Testament.  Maybe we will pass through there again some day and have an opportunity to work on the next book!!!!!!

 7.        Final Thoughts

Being well prepared for service must be a priority.  Be all that you can be is not only a military slogan but is an absolute necessity when we send anyone cross culturally.  We are ambassadors of Jesus Christ and MUST be well prepared for the task.  An old hymn said it best:

Give of your best to the Master;

Naught else is worthy His love.

He gave Himself for your ransom,

Gave up His glory above.

Laid down His life without murmur,

You from sin's ruin to save.

Give Him your heart's adoration;

Give Him the best that you have.

With that in mind, I encourage EVERY leader of 2004 short term missions trips to attend the Culture Link Seminar mentioned in item #2 above.  This overnighter will give you the tools to adequately prepare you to prepare your team.  I personally consider Culture Link a MUST for every short term team.  Come learn the basics.

I also highly recommend the RWR (item #5 above) to anyone wrestling with knowing God’s will for their life.  There are only a limited number of spaces still available and registrations close tomorrow!  You can register on line! Click Here

Most of all, Keep Fishing!
