  1. RWR Looking Back

Hey Dana,

I just wanted to thank you for taking your time to have us all at the RWR and giving us this opportunity.  Your lessons were extremely productive and really helped me a lot to know about God's will.  I not only learned how to approach what God wanted me to do in His plan but also what exactly a calling was.  That night when we spent time in Isaiah, I realized that I was called to be a missionary.  I have wanted to be a missionary for about 5 months now because I felt that God wanted me to do it.  Although, I knew it deep in my heart I avoided it until summer when I was really confronted with it during Creation. That day I came to grips with the fact that I need to do what God wants me too.  The reason I had avoided it for that time was because I had always admired missionaries, people like you, Nelson, Robyn, and Craig.  I felt that God would not want me to be in what I always thought to be a "high position" and I didn't feel good enough.  That night at RWR, I realized when you talked about Isaiah feeling inadequate and how he repented, I recognized the fact that it sounded like me and my feelings toward being a missionary. Then you began to describe how that was God calling Isaiah. I guess I never really understood what it was to be called until you really explained it to us.  When I realized I went through those same feelings, I was just reassured that this was God's Will for me.  For this, I want to thank you because along with all that you have taught me this weekend, God definitely used you to help me know this was my calling.  Thank you soo much!  You've really helped me.

Bright and gentle blessings,

Jess Davidovich

  1. Feed Back

Hello Dana,

For the Leaders seminar for short-term missions, I know a couple of people in my church are interested in going. A concern that was brought up was do they need to have hotel accommodations for this. I said no but I could be wrong. Can you clarify that if it is possible? Thank You for your Time.

Your Fellow Servant In Christ,

Alicia Billups

Alicia,

I think several of people are confused about this.  This is an overnighter and part of the “experience” will be sleeping arrangements that will have a few cultural surprises!  Sooo bring a sleeping bag and plan for a fun but stretching event.

  1. Final Thoughts

RWR is now history.  There were 18 of us there from 8 different BFC churches.  Besides serving gallons of coffee, washing 100’s of pots and pans, washing dishes for five meals and picking up many truck loads of storm induced limbs, we spent five sessions together studying God’s Word.  Here is the outline for all of you who missed this great weekend:

  1. God’s will begins with sexual purity (I Thess. 4:3) and requires us to put our bodies on the alter as a living sacrifice.  (Rom. 12:1-2).

  1. We are always simply an interment that either God will use or Satan will use. (Rom. 6:12-13)  We must choose to yield to one or the other.  No other choice is available to us.  Remember the rake!

  1. We MUST know the gift that God has given to us in order to know His will.  The gifts are extremely practical.   (Rom. 12:4-8)  Remember Norman Rockwell’s painting Freedom from Want.

  1. We must be proactive in seeking God’s Will not reactive in waiting for His call.  Remember the 55-year-old woman that was still awaiting a call from God.

  1. A proactive person seeks opportunities to serve.  (Luke 10:30ff)  Remember the Good Samaritan.  (Gal. 6:10)

  1. Make volunteering a lifestyle.  (Is. 6:8)  Remember BEFORE Isaiah volunteered, he became extremely aware on his sin and inadequacy because he saw the Lord!  Repentance was necessary, and THEN he heard the call and THEN he respond with those very familiar words:  “here am I send me”.

  1. The average Christian knowing all of the above will probably NEVER follow through on DOING God’s will because of the FEAR factor.  (The Book of Mark)  The theme if the Book Chapter 1 is:

i)        In order to be an effective witness we must confront the person’s sin and plead for him/her to repent and believe the Good news.  1:15

ii)       b. To be a follower of Jesus Christ, we must fish for men.  1:17  The “bait for fishing is the Gospel and repentance. Wearing a Christian tee shirt simply will not cut it!

iii)     All authority is given to us because Jesus has that authority to give!  1:25.  (also Matt. 28:18-20)

iv)     d. We must confront the fear factor.  Mark 16:7-8.  Remember Peter’s Story and Mark’s story Mark 14:66-72 and Mark 14:50-52

Most of all, Keep Fishing!
