1. Team Building Idea

It is not too early to begin planning team building experiences for your short-term group. Spending quality time working together fosters team awareness and spirit. Victory Valley offers two events that you can be used:

·    Fall Fix Up October 11, 2003

·    Spring Spruce Up May 1, 2004

There may be other times that the camp could accommodate your group for a day of work. Contact:

3. Feed Back

Dear Dana:

Thanks for listing us in your prayer section. We had a great trip and were involved in Children’s Ministry with two local orphanages and a Christian pre-school as well as street children. We took over $1800 we raised from our Run for the Children, a 5K Race our church held back in August. We are planning on doing that next year as well. In addition we had a work team which did carpentry at the OM Headquarters in Romania. They are converting an old house into dorms for mission teams. We also had a teaching ministry which I participated in. We did a marriage conference in the evenings and taught at the Good News Bible School in Ratbav during the days. Our subject there was Pastoral Theology. We were blessed and tried to be a blessing as we came alongside the Romanian Church. Looking for at least two trips next year, Lord willing with one team being a Teaching Team and the other being the Childrens Team and the Work Crew. A Medical Team is also being considered.

There is a work project for roofers over in Brashov, where we are. Brasov is a beautiful city at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. Interesting people. If you know of anyone, let me know.

Thanks so much.

Brian Cooper

Dear Dana,

I have a praise and prayer request to share with you. Today Sept.24,03 Rachel Bechtel held her first Bible Study at her high school. 16 children from middle school and high school showed up. Praise The Lord!! There is a Christian teacher that is allowing her to use his room every Wed. morning before school to hold the Bible Study. Rachel is meeting with Pastor Tim Burlett on Sundays before youth group to go over things for the Bible Study,he has been a great help. Please pray that these Bible studies will impact the students at Northern Lebanon High School, and the Lord will be honored and glorified through these Bible studies. Pray that Rachel will continue to seek God's wisdom while studying and teaching.

Thanks so much,

Cindy Bechtel

6. Final Thought

A quick look at Let’s Fish and it becomes obvious that this appears to be “off season” for mission trips. There are only four out of 56 trips left on this year’s calendar. Don’t get lulled into thinking that there is nothing to do till the next mission season. What you do NOW will make all the difference in the world as to the quality of your church’s next ministry.

Here are some ideas to keep you active over the long winter months:

1.      Have your leadership attend the upcoming Short Term Symposium. See item #2 above.

2.      Talk to your missionaries supported by your church using them as an obvious resource of possible ministry.

3.      Keep in close contact with Nelson and Chris for ministry ideas.

4.      Have mission interested young people attend RWR (see item #5 above)

5.      Make use of Let’s Fish and have all mission participants register for their weekly copy.

6.      Follow the three “P’s” of a successful short term trip:

·   PLAN. Plan early, plan well, plan thoroughly.

·   PRAY.

·   PRACTICE. No matter if the team is ministry or work oriented, be your very best!

7.      Build team spirit early. (See item #1 above)

8.      Consider a Design Your Impact Workshop for your church. This BOM sponsored workshop will help you integrate your short term mission program into the overall design that God has created for your local congregation. This is great material! Contact us for more information.

Most of all, Keep Fishing!

Dana
