5.      Journal Entry

Monday August 18

Some images are better remembered in one’s mind rather than by photo. Some things are deeper than a “Kodak Moment”! Elizabeth had phonetically written out the word of You are my All in All for Liz. Liz is so sweat for a 15 year old river girl…so bright eyed!

Liz heard that the American kids were singing this song in English in the evening service and asked if she could be part of the group. Someone laughed and said “sure if you can learn English in five hours”! Liz wanted to be part of the group, and she should, we lived now for over two weeks in her home and she was very involved in everything we did.

Liz was not going to be put off by such a daunting challenge, armed with this scrap of paper and Elizabeth as her coach, she was determined to conquer English in just one afternoon! Everyone was exhausted from the grueling heat and the long ministry hours and the miles of walking between the church and our sleeping quarters. Most of us had less than an hour to take a bath/swim and catch a few moments of shut eye before a long night of church and youth activities that would last for hours.

As I attempted to catch a snooze in my hammock I could see the beautiful Capanaparo River at sunset silhouetted by Elizabeth and Liz sitting on a log with these words being sung in very broken English:

You are my strength when I am weak,

You are the treasure that I seek,

You are my all in all.

Seeking You as a precious jewel,

Lord to give up I'd be a fool,

You are my all in all.

Jesus, Lamb of God worthy is Your name.

Jesus, Lamb of God worthy is Your name.

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame.

Rising again, I praise Your name,

You are my all in all.

When I fall down You pick me up.

When I am dry You fill my cup,

You are my all in all.

Jesus, Lamb of God worthy is Your name.

Jesus, Lamb of God worthy is Your name.

That night Liz stood with our team in front of a packed church. What a sight: there stood Liz with kids from Emmaus, Coopersburg, Reading, Red Hill, along with career missionary Judy Harley, and her sister Nodes from Caracas. And then there was me, supposedly the leader of the group . . .the big guy not being able to sing one word. Moved by the accomplishment of this determined 15 year old girl standing beside me singing her heart out, I could only stand there sobbing like a baby!

6.      Final Thought

A family from India now worships at my home church, a family from Greece is now an appointee with the BOM, last week I attended a birthday party for Myea an Indian girl, tomorrow night I will have dinner with a girl from Ghana, just minutes ago I received an e-mail letter from my international daughter in Thailand. In just one week all of these experiences took place! The world is truly at our doorstep!

What about you? How many internationals are attending your school or are at your place of employment? How many live in your neighborhood? Look!! They are all around. They pump your gas, serve and cook your food, walk by you in the mall.

Most of you subscribe to this e-letter because you have a heart for missions. You look back with fondness on past mission trips and look forward with joyful anticipation to the possibility for another opportunity.

Opportunity is at your door!!! As you plan for mission trips in 2004, don’t forget the mission opportunity that is yours TODAY October 8, 2003!!!!

Fishing is great!! Get out there!

Most of all, Keep Fishing!

Dana
