sub rosa?

Dana Weller

What in the World is sub rosa?

sub rosa \suhb-ROH-zuh\, adverb:
Secretly; privately; confidentially.

sub-rosa, adjective:
Designed to be secret or confidential; secretive; private.

I do hope this is a sentence you would never use. “I prefer to live my Christian faith sub rosa, after all Christianity is a private matter.”

Jesus said:

“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

The words sub rosa and missionary are like the words oil and water. Let another saying of Jesus influence your life:

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

 Congratulations Nelson!
BFC Short-Term Missions coordinator Nelson Randolph received two awards last evening in recognition of his humanitarian outreach. Nelson has completed forty mission trips in the past six years. When home in the States, he tirelessly collects items for distribution by tracking down sales, clipping coupons, visiting second hand clothing shops, and checking aid outlets on the internet.

Nelson is on a first name basis with many local stores like PayLess Shoes and Wall-mart. His car and home are often packed with his latest “finds” and now he has access to a warehouse facility that accommodates hundreds of cases of materials ready for distribution.

The two awards are:

  • Service To Mankind Award issued by the SERTOMA Club of Easton
  • Service To Mankind District Award by the SERTOMA Clubs of Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey

We are proud of this latest recognition and congratulate Nelson for a job well
done!

 Nelson's Nugget "2195 in 2005"

Last year when we visited a school in Kosovo to minister to the special needs students we were told by the principal that most agencies passed his school by. Why you ask? Because he has 2,195 students in eight grades. No matter how you slice it 2,195 students is a bunch. Well, I could not get that principal’s comments out of my mind and earlier this year I Emailed my Kosovar missionary friends and asked if we could tackle a distribution project of that magnitude. Well, next Sunday April 17 there will be seven of us from churches throughout the Lehigh Valley traveling to Vushtrri to distribute gift packages to each of those 2,195 students. Please remember us in prayer, that Christ will shine through to the students and to the faculty. Please pray that God would give me the right words to say to the principal, probably a Muslim, when I explain the many of the items we have brought are from a Christian school. Please also pray for our safety!! Thanks

Victory Valley

Do You Have What it Takes to Serve This Summer at Victory Valley Camp?

Mission: Seek the Salvation of Boys and Girls And Teach Them to Walk in Christ's Way

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” -- Colossians 3:23

If you're committed to Christ and devoted to sharing Biblical truth with children and youth, Victory Valley Camp may have a mission for you this summer. It takes hard work, deepening faith, increasing maturity, unquenchable thirst for God and a serious commitment to the truth of His Word. Oh, yes ... and a lot joy and love.

You have two options for your service at Victory Valley:
1)Serve as a volunteer missionary: You raise 25 adult prayer partners, but you need not raise funds. You will not receive a paycheck, but you get housing and meals while you're at camp.

2)Serve as a supported summer missionary. In addition to your 25 adult prayer partners, you will raise support within a target range depending on your particular role at camp. Here are some examples of weekly support ranges in our two major categories.

High School Age (15+) [Range: $50-$200] Jobs include Counselor Assistant-Kitchen Helper, Maintenance Worker, Lifeguard, Assistant Horsemanship Specialist, Assistant Cook, Crafts Specialist, Day Camp Counselor, A-V Specialist/Photographer, Snak Shak Manager and more.

College-Age and Beyond [Range: $50-$350] Jobs include Program Director, Boys and Girls Head Counselors, Jr. Boys and Jr. Girls Head Counselors, Head Cook, Horsemanship Specialist, Venture Quest Trip Leaders, Lifeguards, Crafts Specialist, Maintenance Worker and more.

HOW TO GET STARTED
If you think you have what it takes, there are three steps to getting started as a Victory Valley Summer Missionary:

1) Fill out an application.
2) Complete a personal interview
3) Build your prayer/support team
