1.  Travel Update

(This advisory is given so you can be prudent in your travels this summer.  It is in no way an attempt to frighten you or cause you to change plans but simply to make wise choices.  A detailed list of do’s and don’ts is given in the March 12 edition of Let’s Fish.  This list can be found at March 12th Edition)

Worldwide Caution Public Announcement

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE

Office of the Spokesman

April 21, 2003

This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated March 19, 2003. It is being issued to remind U.S. citizens of the continuing threat of terrorist actions that may target civilians and of the need to remain vigilant. The U.S. Government remains deeply concerned about the security of U.S. citizens overseas. U.S. citizens are encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. This Worldwide Caution expires on September 20, 2003.

Tensions remaining from the recent events in Iraq may increase the potential threat to U.S. citizens and interests abroad, including by terrorist groups. Terrorist actions may include, but are not limited to, suicide operations, bombings or kidnappings. Possible threats include conventional weapons such as explosive devices or non-conventional weapons, including chemical or biological agents. Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets. These may include facilities where American citizens and other foreigners congregate or visit, such as residential areas, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, hotels, outdoor recreation events or resorts and beaches. If such facilities cannot be avoided, U.S. citizens should increase their security awareness at such locations

U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or suspend public services from time to time for security reasons. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest American embassy or consulate.

As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its Consular Information Program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov. In addition to information on the Internet, U.S. travelers can get up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 in the U.S. and outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328.

3.  New Opportunities for “longer” short term

UPDATED

Dear All,

We have decided not to pursue having a teacher for the boys.  They are my greatest joy and i truly do not want less time with them but more.  We had received some counsel that having a teacher come would assist me in the tremendous amount of work i have here.  However, after much prayer and further thought we have decided that it is the "ministry" we need assistance with, and not the kids.  Therefore, we are going to pursue our original desire for someone to help in the ministry needs.  i am sorry if this has caused you any inconvenience.  If you know of anyone who is interested in coming to do office work, (menus, accounting, reservations, cleaning lists, etc..), and assisting in cleaning the place up constantly, (keeping the library, TV/Video room and game room straightened), greeting and farewelling our guests, doing shopping and purchasing of food, helping with teaching Sunday School for 4 - 8 yr. olds, and all the other areas of ministry needed to keep this 16 bedroom vacation home going,  etc... and, very importantly, being a caring ear to hurting, tired missionaries, then please let us know if you or someone else would like to come and help in these ministry areas. It would require them to pray in their own support fully also.  Again, i am sorry for the change but we feel it is for the best for us and the vacation

home.

 love,

the wimble family

6.  Keeping up!

Missions needs change so quickly!  This week I had two needs to be posted in Let’s Fish.  By the time for this publication, BOTH needs were met!  Frances Sears met the need in the Lawrence family, and a teacher need in Spain was filled!

Take a minute to cheer!

There are some other needs however that still are present.  Pray about and consider the following:

 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ;

Most of you know that the Lord allowed the Thompson congregation to build a basketball court this past year in a low-income neighborhood in Thompson. This court is getting LOTS of use this spring by the young people and adults of that neighborhood. But that neighborhood is also a place where there are frequent drug deals, vandalism - especially in some condemned buildings, gang violence, and alcoholism.  There is a real spiritual battle taking place there - a brother in Christ who lives in this neighborhood and assisted us with our block party this fall is facing some difficult personal problems.   You might also know that a block party we held in October to celebrate the completion of the court took place on a very rainy day - and had to be held inside.   The Thompson church has decided to hold another block party this spring - on Memorial Day (May 26). For the past 3 years, we have entered a float in the town parade (which circles around this needy  neighborhood), and pass out tracts as we march in the parade. This year we plan to hold the block party at the basketball court shortly after the parade ends. We hope the weather cooperates, and if so, we would hope we might attract 100 or more attendees from the community.  However, we are a small congregation, and would welcome help from anyone interested in joining us that holiday weekend. We would like to  have free food available ( we still have some left over from the  October party) - cooking hot dogs on grills, but also would like to  offer several activities during the day - Christian music, some types  of basketball tournaments or competitions, face painting, etc. We also would like to have believers who would willing to engage area residents in evangelistic conversations.   I know this event is only a few weeks away - but wish to extend an invitation to any individuals or groups in the BFC who would like to assist us in this community outreach.

If you have questions, or would have an interest - please give me a call at 800-621-6807.

Thank you!

Pastor Dennis Spinney  Thompson CT BFC

8. Luggage Restrictions Heads Up

There are many changes taking place in luggage restrictions.  The most recent is a reduction in weight from 70 pounds to 50 pounds per checked bag.  These restrictions are NOT universal and change per airline company.  Please check your airline company prior to packing.  There is nothing more disconcerting than to show up at the gate with 15 people and 30 pieces of luggage and each piece 20 pounds over weight.

Also carry-on luggage restrictions are changing per airline.  Be armed with the latest information on sizes number and not permitted items.  Don’t be caught in a preventable dilemma.

9.  Final Thought

God said:  “If you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off.  Go after them.  Get them back.”  James 5:19 The Message

I watched a fisherman literally belly flop in the shallows of a stream trying to grab a fish that flopped from the shore back into the stream after being unhooked.  He had such resolve, he simply was not going to let that twelve inch brown trout get away.  Soaking wet, cold and muddy he proudly held the recaptured fish high to the cheers of the other fishermen in the area.

Fishing for men is not simply signing up for a short term missions trip at your church.  Fishing requires a long hard look at God’s instruction book on HOW to fish.  Are you willing to do whatever it takes to make sure not even one “fish” gets away?  God is concerned or He would not have instructed us not only to fish but to watch over the fish already netted.

If you are not concerned about that teen that no longer comes to youth group, or the young couple that is no longer interested in the things of God, then why are you desiring to go some place else to fish?  Listen to God’s instruction one more time”

“If you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off.  Go after them.  Get them back.”

Get muddy for God!

Most of all, Keep Fishing!
