How Do you Win an Atheist to Christ?

By Dana Weller
Simply put, you can’t! Certainly you can not debate him into the Kingdom.

I just finished a book that approached this subject by offering a whole series of probabilities;
Chances of getting hit by lightening 1 in 3,000
Chances of dying in an airplane crash 1 in 6,000
Chances of the world beginning w/o design 1 in 10 to 20th power.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!

The book suggested that one could debate the atheist simply on the theory of probably that there is a God. Such nonsense! No one is ever debated into faith. Faith in God is simply that Faith.

It is the Spirit of God that draws man unto Himself. We are simply to proclaim truth. The Bible states that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. What is our job? We are to proclaim the Word. Statement like “Jesus said”, “God states in the Word”, “Paul writes” and “It is recorded in the Gospels” are the powerful tools used by the Holy Spirit to bring a man to faith.

You found faith because the Holy Spirit led you through the Word to Christ the Redeemer. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. The Atheist must find faith in the same way!

Now that you have had exposure to a missionary experience, I encourage you to continue to be fishers of men by applying the simple challenge given us by Peter:

In your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence. I Peter 3:15

Never underestimate the power of the Word of God!

 Travel Alert

Transportation Accidents Still #1 Killer of Short Term Missionaries!

Received from Marc Hoyle BFC Missionary with Helps International:

On Tuesday evening, upon returning from a day of medical missions in the mountains of Honduras, a pick-up truck transporting 15 people lost its brakes. The driver chose to run off the road into the upper ditch instead of into a deeper ravine. The truck landed on its side ejecting everyone, 12 from the back, 3 from the cab.
-Dr. Ron Feather, a dentist from Mississippi, was killed. I have no information still on his family situation or age.
11 others were injured, 7 seriously. The vehicles following the truck were filled with medical people and equipment and they were able to minister immediately to the injured, set-up I.V.'s and do triage. They were also able to contact the hospital (from which the short-team was based) immediately which was located 1.5 hrs away.
-A 15-year old girl, Mallory Vining, had internal bleeding and was evacuated to the capital City of Tegucigalpa where they removed her spleen and set a plate in her broken jaw. She is now in a hospital in SC and being kept unconscious as further surgery will be necessary.
- Kathryn Skinner is in critical condition and is now in a Houston TX hospital.
- Michael Kendall (17) was originally unconscious and appeared to have damaged vertebrae. The x-rays show no permanent damage, but he does have a broken arm. Now in a SC hospital
- Corrie Barkley, Katy Anna Grisham, and Verna Collins are in a hospital in Tupelo, MS (conditions unknown).
- Eric Vanlderstine is still in a hospital in Tegucigalpa.

The less injured are:
- Emilie Edmonds, broken wrist
- Kayla Hoffmaster (17) dislocated shoulder and elbow injury requiring a cast
- Dr. Barbara Royster and daughter (15) (name not available) both with broken bones

Two teenage girls from Asheville, NC were asleep in the back of the truck and suffered only bruises.

Please pray also for Dan Downing and Paul Kendall (no relation to Michael) who are the HIM personnel that were responsible for this short-term team. They were not traveling with the team at the time of the accident. Paul returned with the SC injured. Dan is returning tomorrow.

Despite all the injuries, the fact that this was a medical team in several vehicles was a real blessing as several more would have lost their lives without immediate attention. We believe that God has a purpose in all of this and we all continue to look to Him.

Journal Entry
July 2005

I can hardly believe the summer is halfway over already. Time flies by way too quickly! God has done some amazing things during the first four weeks that I’ve been here in the Czech Republic. Let me fill you in on what’s been going on here at camp.

First of all, I must say that flexibility has been a key word for me this summer. Upon arrival, I was asked to take on the role of head supervisor for the American girls. For a girl who is not necessarily gifted in leadership, this has been a huge stretch for me! The Lord has really been showing me, in a humbling way, that “abilities” are not prerequisites for serving Him. It’s the proper heart attitude that the Lord is looking for.

My responsibilities this summer include organizing group devotions, organizing the songs and skits that the Americans perform, discipling five girls, keeping tabs on different work areas to make sure everything is running smoothly, various jobs in the camp office, and washing 11 girl’s laundry. It certainly keeps me busy! Another opportunity to practice flexibility came when I was asked to also head up the English program for the summer. This means I am responsible for administering the placement tests each week and then organizing and assigning classes, as well as checking up on the teachers and their lesson plans.

I want to thank you for your prayers for the camp. The Lord has blessed us with a larger number of campers this year. We just finished a week in which we were filled to capacity with almost 90 kids ranging in ages from 7 to 13! We praise the Lord that, so far, almost 50 children and teens have made decisions for Christ here at camp! Please pray with us that these new believers stay strong in their faith and that they will be put in contact with godly mentors who will encourage them to grow in their spiritual walk. This is what it’s all about – the Lord working in the lives of young people! It has been a blessing to be able to witness it first hand.

Please continue to pray for all of us. We have reached the halfway point of the summer and everyone is getting tired. Satan is doing his best to discourage and divide. This is when God's supernatural strength is so evident. In our weakest moment, He provides the strength we need.

Many of you know I injured my knee right before I came here. I thank you for your prayers. I praise the Lord that the pain has been greatly reduced by using a brace and taking plenty of Ibuprofen! I will see an orthopedic specialist here in Czech on Friday, July 29th to find out exactly what is wrong and how it can be fixed. I guess the Lord knew I needed to work on patience, because it certainly has been frustrating to be slowed down. My nickname, affectionately given by the rest of the team here, is "Gimpy".

My two summers, here in the Czech, have really impacted my walk with the Lord and fueled an ever-growing interest in missions. On that note, I'd like to ask you to pray for me as I come home in September. I have the opportunity to go with a team from Cedar Crest on a missions trip to Greece just a few days after arriving in the States. We will be there for two weeks and will be working in a soup kitchen and helping our missionaries with their ministry to refugees. I am really excited about this opportunity to experience missions in a different setting and to minister in new ways. I really feel that it is important to be involved in missions under the direction of my church, so I am looking forward to this opportunity to serve alongside fellow members of our congregation.

Again, I cannot begin to thank you for all your prayers and support! I truly believe that the salvation of those 50 kids is due to the prayers of so many. If you would like to see pictures and updates about life at camp, we have a website: www.czechtrip.org So, go "czech" it out!!!! I can't wait to share more with you when I return to the States in September!
In Christ,
Sarah Klase
