Blueberry
Mountain Camp
I need some help.
Blueberry Mountain Bible Camp (web site
www.blueberrymountain.org ), has a major
project to accomplish this summer and I am
looking for a church to come and spend a week
helping us with it. Being single staffed, I can
not do it alone and at the same time, get ready
for summer camp.
A section of our dorm roof has leaked for 15
plus years. Numerous fixes have not repaired it
and over the years it seems to be getting worse.
This past summer, you could smell mold. We don't
want our summer camp campers exposed to mold,
let alone any of our other guests including
retreats and work teams. It is time to replace
that section of the roof.
What needs to be done? The L-shaped cedar
shingled roof of 908 square feet needs all cedar
shingles taken off, underplaying rotten wood
removed (we can not see what needs to be removed
due to a 6" roof thickness), potential rotten
roof trusses cut out and replaced, damaged sheet
rock removed, all previously wet fiberglass
insulation removed, wall studs checked for
rotten wood and replaced, floor sills checked
and replaced. Once the bad wood is removed-if
there is any, new wood needs to be installed,
then roof decking followed by ice and water
shield followed by asphalt shingles. In the
halls after insulation and sheet rock are
removed etc..., it all needs to be put back
together.
Pocono Mtn BFC is coming here June 8-11. They
are mostly an older adult team and they will
start on the roof but in their two work days
here, they will only be able to start the
project. Calvary BFC, Coopersburg will be here
June 17-24. They will need to finish whatever
has been started.
This leaves a whole week between both BFC
churches for work to progress. Would your church
be willing to send a work team here for the week
of June 11-17, a team of adults and teens,
possibly with some skill in sheet rock and
roofing? Please note, the workers working on the
roof itself need to be extremely safety
conscience and not afraid of heights.
The project must be completely completed-roof
back on, walls insulated and sheet rocked and
painted before June 24. Our summer camp staff
arrives June 27 for staff training and summer
camp campers arrive July 2.
We would of course ask for work project funds
of whatever you would be able to help with. For
the actual stay, we need $16.00/day/person for
ages 14 and older; $8.00/day/person ages 8-13
and free under 8 to cover the costs of feeding
and housing each person for the week. There are
two snacks each day as well as meals, great
fellowship and great scenery of God's creation.
Thank you very much for being concerned about
reaching Maine children and adults for Christ,
Bob Sloma, Director and BFC missionary
