Let's Fish 2006

By Dana Weller
Greetings Lets Fishers. We welcome all of the new subscribers from Sno-Glo 2006. Heres how to get the most out of your weekly publication:

Spend time praying for all short term trips mentioned each week.
Prayerfully consider opportunities for short term involvement.
Send us your photos, articles, and journal entries.
Invite others to join Lets Fish
Register all of your short term trips at http://www.bfcbom.org/toppage1.htm

Warning your experience in short term ministry may lead to career missionary service. 100% of the applications for missionary service at Send International this year were made by people who had recently completed a short term ministry! Statistically, over 90% of career missionaries started with short term ministry.

If you go on a short term ministry, listen carefully to the prodding of the Holy Spirit. God may be calling you!!!

 Ministry Opportunities

Blueberry Mountain Camp

I need some help.

Blueberry Mountain Bible Camp (web site www.blueberrymountain.org ), has a major project to accomplish this summer and I am looking for a church to come and spend a week helping us with it. Being single staffed, I can not do it alone and at the same time, get ready for summer camp.

A section of our dorm roof has leaked for 15 plus years. Numerous fixes have not repaired it and over the years it seems to be getting worse. This past summer, you could smell mold. We don't want our summer camp campers exposed to mold, let alone any of our other guests including retreats and work teams. It is time to replace that section of the roof.

What needs to be done? The L-shaped cedar shingled roof of 908 square feet needs all cedar shingles taken off, underplaying rotten wood removed (we can not see what needs to be removed due to a 6" roof thickness), potential rotten roof trusses cut out and replaced, damaged sheet rock removed, all previously wet fiberglass insulation removed, wall studs checked for rotten wood and replaced, floor sills checked and replaced. Once the bad wood is removed-if there is any, new wood needs to be installed, then roof decking followed by ice and water shield followed by asphalt shingles. In the halls after insulation and sheet rock are removed etc..., it all needs to be put back together.

Pocono Mtn BFC is coming here June 8-11. They are mostly an older adult team and they will start on the roof but in their two work days here, they will only be able to start the project. Calvary BFC, Coopersburg will be here June 17-24. They will need to finish whatever has been started.

This leaves a whole week between both BFC churches for work to progress. Would your church be willing to send a work team here for the week of June 11-17, a team of adults and teens, possibly with some skill in sheet rock and roofing? Please note, the workers working on the roof itself need to be extremely safety conscience and not afraid of heights.

The project must be completely completed-roof back on, walls insulated and sheet rocked and painted before June 24. Our summer camp staff arrives June 27 for staff training and summer camp campers arrive July 2.

We would of course ask for work project funds of whatever you would be able to help with. For the actual stay, we need $16.00/day/person for ages 14 and older; $8.00/day/person ages 8-13 and free under 8 to cover the costs of feeding and housing each person for the week. There are two snacks each day as well as meals, great fellowship and great scenery of God's creation.

Thank you very much for being concerned about reaching Maine children and adults for Christ,
Bob Sloma, Director and BFC missionary

Summer Church Planting Intern

For the Past five years Church Extension Ministries has sent out men interested in learning more about church planting. They served for a six week period in places like Thompson CT, Las Cruces NM, and The DELMARVA Project. Other church planting sites are also open for a Summer Intern: Hispanic summer ministry in Reading & Allentown, PA, urban ministry in Brooklyn NY, and at the Cape May County, NJ church plant.

Once again we are recruiting men to be considered for a summer internship. If you are interested in learning more about our Church Planting Internship, please contact me at:

URBANA is only 313 days away.

NOW is the time to begin to plan for this great experience. There is no getting around the fact that URBANA is expensive. If you immediately begin a consistent savings plan there is no reason why this important missions conference should be out of your reach.

Get all of your questions answered at:
http://www.urbana.org/u2006.faq.cfm

Urbana offers a multiplicity of experiences and opportunities under one roof. Trip Start: 6/22/2006 Trip End: 7/2/2006

The objective is two-fold: to help with the constrction of a church in a town in central Romania (Cisnadie), and lead a VBS in the evening. We had two teams from Grace BFC in Q-town there this past summer, and will build on what has been started. We will be hosted by local believers in their homes. Group size: Limited to one group of 12-14 persons. Minimum requirements: Able bodied believers, preferably adults. Persons younger than 18 will be considered on individual bases (no younger than 14 though). One must be able to work on a construction project. Walking at least a mile without problems should be a minimum as well. Also, applicants must be willing to contribute both to the physical and to the ministry aspects of the project. Price: $1400 per person (estimated). This includes plane tickets, in-country transportation, accomodations, trip insurance, sight-seeing fees. Extra money needed for personal expenses and a few times we plan on eating out or while traveling. Also, each team member may be asked to help raise some funds for the projects we will be involved with. Timetable: March 12 is the deadline to return your application and the $200 initial deposit (this counts towards your trip cost, but if we need to cancel your ticket, this money is non-refundable, as it goes to cover the penalty for cancellation as well as the trip insurance). The first ones to return the applications and the $200 deposit have priority. Your application will be reviewed by a committee and you will be notified of the final decision by or before Sunday, 03/19/ 2006. Applications are available by e-mail (or mail if requested), and must be returned by March 12 to Grace BFC in Quakertown or to Dan Istrate.

For further info please call Dan at 215-368-2529, or our secretary Gerri Alderfer at GBFC at 215-536-6096, or e-mail Dan at danielistrate@hotmail.com

 Final Thoughts
Over the next few months there will be a flurry of activity in our churches as teams get ready for ministry. In all of the business of purchasing airline tickets, practices for ministry, team building, correspondence with the missionary on the field, fund raising etc. a short termer may soon loose the original reason for the trip. It does not matter if you are preparing to paint, put a roof on a building, doing street evangelism, ESL classes, puppets, vacation bible school, staffing at Victory Valley or Pinebrook, the REASON for going is the same Gods Kingdom.

We have been called to be Kingdom builders. Never loose site of the awesome opportunity it is to serve our Master and King.

Lets go fishing!
Dana
