These Hands

Exodus 24:3-18

The work project concept for getting people to help with domestic and world mission building projects swept through the BFC like the Tsunami in South East Asia!

Divinely inspired craftsmen have been used all over the world in the spirit of the way the tabernacle was built as recorded in Exodus 31 (and reinforced by the principle in Romans 12:6 that everyone has something to contribute). The idea of getting involved in global construction missions began snowballing in the BFC not long after God gave us the ministry of Chris Merrick. Thus, in God's timing, the church was prepared to respond to immediate needs. Scores of men and women "filled . . . with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts”1 signed up to go on teams from South Allentown to Serbia.

Not long afterward multi-team work and ministry projects were put together for ministries in both Church Extension and with our missionary families around the world. Nelson Randolph joined the BOM and many local BFC churches began launching out.

The sunrise-to-sunset labor of men and women offering back to God the skills He has endowed them with has upset the stereotype of the rich, dollar-waving American. What's more, the workers themselves have been revolutionized as they have discovered ways in which they can be of direct benefit to the Body of Christ around the world.

Of course, it's not only on missionary construction projects that craftsman skills have been put to work. Through the history of the BFC, a good percentage of local churches began to reach out. Puppet ministries, sport teams, street evangelists, medical teams, ESL teams, and humanitarian teams joined with those doing construction projects all in the name of Christ!

It's impossible to count the people who have used their God-given skills in building or rebuilding "tabernacles" or tabernacle furnishings just as Bezalel and Oholiab did.

What about you? Has the Lord gifted you with craft skills which could -- and should -- be put to work in His service? Is there something you could do to improve the attractiveness of the "tabernacle" where you worship Him? Is there a Church Extension project that could use you? Is there a ministry project in another country where you could be of help?

The Lord has a place for you!

We rode the train with the Sioukiouroglous to downtown center city Athens. The purpose was to see first-hand the refugee ministry that they have become a part of. It is called Helping Hands. To say the least, we were blown away by the opportunity and the ministry which is going on. Helping Hands was begun by a missionary with International Teams. . . The Sioukiouroglous are considered staff of Helping Hands and fill a very important roll there because they are citizens of Greece and speak Greek. January 25 Pastor Cliff Boone

 Christ for the World, and the World for Christ.

“The Young Men’s Christian Association of Ohio met in one of our churches with their motto in evergreen letters over the pulpit: “Christ for the World, and the World for Christ.” This suggested the hymn “Christ for the world we sing.” It was on my way home from this service in 1869, walkng alone through the streets, that I put together the four stanzas of the hymn”.  Samuel Wolcott

Christ for the world we sing,
The world to Christ we bring, with loving zeal,
The poor and them that mourn, the faint and overborne,
Sin sick and sorrow worn, whom Christ doth heal.

Christ for the world we sing,
The world to Christ we bring, with fervent prayer;
The wayward and the lost, by restless passions tossed,
Redeemed at countless cost, from dark despair.

Christ for the world we sing,
The world to Christ we bring, with one accord;
With us the work to share, with us reproach to dare,
With us the cross to bear, for Christ our Lord.

Christ for the world we sing,
The world to Christ we bring, with joyful song;
The newborn souls, whose days, reclaimed from error’s ways,
Inspired with hope and praise, to Christ belong.
