Sno-Glo Gets Vision for Disaster Relief - Update

I already shared with you last week the astonishing goal set by the first week’s Sno-Glo of $1,000 for disaster relief for victims of the South Asia quake and tsunami. You can imagine my joy when I heard that the actual offering was over $2,000!

I again was at Sno-Glo this past Saturday to give a missions presentation. I knew it was going to be a special day when I could clearly hear the sounds of nearly 600 kids praising God while I was still in the parking lot!

I was overwhelmed at the audience packed into the Pinebrook auditorium. The praise and morning message now being over, I had the opportunity to look from the stage as scores of kids in that vast audience were standing indicating their willingness to be used by God.

It was a special morning as challenges were made not only for missions but for young men to consider pastoral ministry in the BFC.

I was asked to do one last thing after my presentation. Challenge the kids to set a goal for their disaster relief offering. You can imagine the challenge to my faith when a young man stood immediately to his feet and said “we should commit ourselves to $4,000!

“Four thousand dollars!” I said, “Are you sure?” I think the number shocked everyone. Someone started clapping then others joined, and soon it became apparent that these teens were committing themselves to a $4,000 gift to their overseas counterpart who had faced such devastation.

Driving home I determined that I would not doubt that God would honor the commitment of these kids as I had doubted the week before. There were no feelings of surprise, only joy and praise when the first words out of my international daughter’s mouth when she got home from Sno-Glo were “the offering was over $4,000!”

Think of it; in the past two weekends the kids at Sno-Glo have given over $6,000 for relief aid in South Asia!

IF you would desire to join their vision and sacrifice, you can make donations through the BOM by either check or by pay-pal. You can make pay-pal donations at:

Donations can be sent either by check clearly marked Tsunami Relief, or by Pay-pal by clicking the button below.

 Summer Missions Adventure

Brasilia, BRAZIL

June 27 - July 15

Brasilia International School is looking for volunteers to serve at its annual "Summer Camp." Summer Camp is a three week program held during June & July. It is a combination of Vacation Bible School, Summer School, and Day Camp. Each day students receive math and reading taught by qualified teachers. They participate in daily Bible lessons, watch skits, and sing songs lead by enthusiastic adults and teens. There are also daily games, snacks, and crafts. This year's theme is "Olympic Games." Interested individuals must first be accepted into the program by applying to BIS. Next, they raise their support to cover airfare and lodging. Then they make necessary preparations such as applying for a visa and gathering prayer partners. Finally, it's time to pack your bags for an exciting missions experience.

Approximate Cost: $1300-$1500

  • Airfare..........approx $1000-1200

  • Tourist Visa.......approx $100

  • Room&Board.....$35 a week/ $105 for 3 weeks

 Final Tip

Short Term Missions trips are expensive.  Start a savings account today. Make it exclusively an account for mission expenses and covenant with God that it will be used for no other purpose.  Make sacrificial deposits each week to the account.

Look at your spending habits and make drastic cuts in fluff areas such as entertainment and fast food.  Set aside a percentage of all earned monies from baby sitting or other after school jobs.  If you don’t have a job, consider getting one for the SOLE purpose of taking all of the income and using it for your summer ministry.  Sure you will be writing letters asking Uncle Harry to invest in your trip, but NOTHING will have more significance and meaning than the monies you have raised through personal sacrificial investment.  Start your savings account TODAY!

Even if you are not at the moment planning to participate on a trip, start the account anyway!!!  There is a place in God’s world for you!
