Se Habla

By Dana Weller
Homer Simpson once said in a high school flashback, “English! Why do I need English, I’m not going to England!” Homer may not need to know English, in order to be a beer drinking couch potato, BUT YOU NEED ENGLISH (and any other language you can master).

If you are serious about Jesus’ command to go into all the world and proclaim the Good News, then English is your passport! Careers are open to you on every continent and in almost every nation.

Now don’t get me wrong, you ought to make every attempt to master the language of the country and people you work with. English gets you in the door, the native language gets you into their hearts!

BEFORE you ever decide on a career, you ought to consider how your career can mesh with God’s calling upon your life. Missions is not for the few, missions and the world is open to everyone. Careers have opened the doors of the world to actually doing missions without the financial burden upon the church. This is nothing new, but is actually how Paul did much of his missionary work.

Consider teaching in international schools, starting an international business, becoming a tour guide, becoming a student in an international university, in fact almost any career has an international option even Burger King! The US government employs nearly 900,000 people overseas in 40 different agencies.

Go to our website, and for just one minute, watch the world population clock. Pay particular attention to the lower left hand box. Watch the numbers that represent people who will live and die and probably never hear the Gospel story. I am writing this at 8:00 a.m. and there are already 40,289 children who were born today who may NEVER have even one chance of hearing the Good News.

Here is another Homer quote:
“Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.”

Howard Grose was both a college professor and university president. He saw many talented young people use their education and gifts in very foolish ways squandering away the best years of their lives. He wrote the following words:

Give of your best to the master,
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation's full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

Give of your best to the Master,
Give Him first place in your heart;
Give Him first place in your service,
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you shall be given -
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have

 Final Thoughts
It is now a bit after 8:30 in the thirty-two minutes since I last checked 2,600 more children were born into the least reached places of the world. That’s 22,440,000 this year.

When I was a kid we sang a chorus that had the following lines in it:

Untold millions are still untold.
Untold missions are outside the fold.
Who will tell them of Jesus’ love
And the heavenly mansions awaiting above?

Jesus died on Calvary to save each one from sin,
Now He call to you and me
To go and bring them in!

Let’s get Fishing!
