1.  New Guy on the Block!!!

I would like to introduce myself to all the readers of “Let’s Fish!!”  My name is Nelson Randolph, and as of May 1 I have assumed the position of Short-Term Partnership Coordinator for the Bible Fellowship Board of Missions.

Last year I left Dun & Bradstreet after twenty-one years of service to pursue short-term missions full-time.  I am excited about working with all the Bible Fellowship churches and missionaries to strengthen the partnerships that exist, and in many cases, develop new partnerships where needs are made known.  I have already had a few chances to work with Chris Merrick and I look forward to traveling and working with him in the future.

Over the last four and a half years God has allowed me to either participate in or lead twenty-four different short-term trips.  While half of those have been to Kosovo,  I have also been to Morocco, Czech Republic, Mexico, Ecuador, and just recently to Afghanistan.  I feel strongly that short-term missions is a life changing experience and is the pipeline for full-time service on the field.

I look forward to meeting and working with all the readers of this publication.  If I can ever assist your church with any short-term needs, such as ticketing, visas, passport information, baggage advice and duffel bag loans, or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me at Bible Fellowship Board of Missions or my home 610-838-8729.

Lord Bless

Nelson Randolph

Dana,

Can we please subscribe to the "Let's Fish" publication? I think it would be a good resource for the short term missionaries we will have for this summer.

Repeat announcement

Can you believe there are OVER 40 short term events taking place this summer by BFC churches.  Some of these are in the church’s own community while others are nearly half a world away.

The Board of Missions is sponsoring a Short Term Debriefing Round-up this fall.  The Round-up will include dinner and an evening of sharing the best and the worst ideas from each short term experience.  There will be seminars on a variety of subjects that will enable each church to be even better equipped for their next trip.  The evening is designed for the leaders of each and every one of the forty trips, potential leaders of future trips as well as pastors and mission chairpeople

This will be “can’t miss” event.  Watch for the date and details right here in a future Let’s Fish publication.

5.  Urgent Needs

¡Hola Everyone!

I hope that you are enjoying the rain that our Lord has send to us. You know, it is more than enough, but if He says you need more, what can we say. Thank You!

Well, Summer is approaching and we have planned outreaches. On July 19, from 3-7pm, we will be having our annual MUSIC at the PARK.  This event is a concert and community block party by which we present the gospel to those who attend the event.  The approximately attendance is about 350.

We are in need of individuals that we help us this day.  We are looking for volunteers that will help us in the following areas:

                Face Painting

                Food Serving

                Crafts

                Games

                Setting up and taking down.

This is a great opportunity individuals, youth groups and even families to do ministry together.

Also, we are looking for churches and individuals that will help us with the cost of the rental of games for children.

Please let me know.

In Xristos,

ELLIOT

Head Dishwasher - college age or older

Activities Director (sports director) - college age or older

    Girl's dorm supervisor - adult

If you know someone or could announce these needs at your church we would appreciate it.

Hello from the beautiful Victory Valley,

I hope you are well and the Lord is blessing.  Victory Valley has a need for nurses this summer as our staff nurse will have very limited time due to an increase family care need.  Karen will still be the supervising nurse and schedule coordinator but will need more help than usual this year.  The need is for nurses, doctors, or EMT trained individuals that could take a shift, a day, or a week and spend it at the Valley.  There is budget money to pay for nursing for the summer as well.  If you would like to volunteer that would be acceptable too.  Please contact me soon so we can develop the schedule.  We will continue to pray for these needs and for you as you consider this position or someone who might be able to fill a spot.  Please announce to the congregation at your church.
This is a definite and urgent plea.& nbsp; Please act now.

Phil Atkins, Director
Victory Valley Camp

It's your Camp.

7.  Final Thought

“Number 572 . . .you go Reading Pennsylvania…waitress”.  She is only 17, she has said goodbye to all of her family who have worked for years to raise the monies to get her the NYC.  She still owes $35,000 to the company that smuggled her to the States.   She now sleeps on a mat in a basement with a group of other Chinese waitresses and contemplates how she will ever make a budget.  She will work 12 hours a day seven days a week and is paid $1,000 a month.  Out of the monies she will owe an $800 dollar payment  each month against her $35,000.  She has no idea where Reading is, she can barely remember the long bus ride from New York.  All she knows is she is somewhere in the USA, tired, homesick, and terribly alone!  Her only hope is that she not get sick.

She tries to forget her weeks in NYC.

"The police claim that there are some 300 safe houses holding newcomers in New York City. They are usually located in basement cellars, and all illegals have to spend some time in one before being released. The immigrants are obliged to eat, sleep, and urinate in the same place as more than a dozen inmates, all of whom are confined to one room. They are starved, deprived of fresh air and sunlight, and beaten regularly. At times they are ordered to inflict pain on each other. Many are shackled and handcuffed to metal bed frames. Males are told that they could be killed; the females are threatened with work in a whorehouse.
"Some men have in fact been killed to set an example to others, and girls have in fact been forced to work in massage parlors for years without pay; others end up locked in during the day and forced to work in gambling joints at night. One thing the smugglers always make sure of is that their victims do not dare to inform the authorities or testify against them in court -- not even to talk about their experience with other illegals. They are never allowed to forget that the smugglers control the whole community. They should see no evil, hear no evil and mind their own business after their release."
(page 82 from book mentioned below)

What is her name? You ask.  Ask her yourself.  She exists in every Chinese buffet and restaurant in your community.  Most of all she waits for is your friendship.  She passionately wants to see your home eat an American meal, see how you live.  She may go to church with you, and would love for you to teach her English.

She does not want your pity.  She chose to come to the USA.  She WILL make it!  Right now she just wants you to ask her name, to take an interest in her, to be her friend.

It is kind of silly for you to spend thousands of dollars to go overseas this summer to be a “missionary” IF you do not have a missionary heart and spirit.  Number 572 has a name…do you know it?
