Stop - Go

By Dana Weller
Stop! And let me tell you what the Lord has done for me. Stop! And let me tell you what the Lord has done for me. He forgave my sins and he saved my soul, He cleansed my heart and he made me whole. Stop! And let me tell you what the Lord has done for me.

I learned this chorus when I was just a kid nearly fifty years ago! We would have a blast holding up a cardboard stop sign. In the past fifty years, I have not found a witnessing tool that more clearly teaches what it means to be a witness. Let me tell you what the Lord has done for me! That is what witnessing is all about.

There was a second verse to the chorus. Holding up a green go sign we would sing:

Go and tell the nations what the Lord has done for you!

Again I have no advice that is more profound than that! This is missions! Make it a habit in your college, high school or place of employment to always remember the little red stop sign and green go sign that was probably part of your Sunday School or Bible School experience!

 Retreat Within a Retreat - November 18-20
Join us at BFCBOM RWR at Pinebrook November 18-20. This is a work weekend with the purpose of taking time with like-minded teens and young adults who want to wrestle with the issues of God’s will in their lives. This is a time of intensive bible study, along with an opportunity to “pick the brain” of a career missionary.

The week-end is free, but you must register. Registrations are already coming in and they will be limited to 20.

Check out the photos at: http://www.bfcbom.org/2004RWR/2004_retreat_within_a_retreat.htm

Journal Entries
Now that we are in full swing with summer trips, may I ask you to submit a journal entry upon your return for publication in Let’s Fish. It is a great encouragement to read the things that God taught you while in ministry. Send your entries to weller@bfcbom.org.
 Final Thoughts
Only you can help spread the word about Let’s Fish. There is a readership of over 238 and you can help that number to grow significantly this year. You can help by making sure that ALL of your short term people are receiving this weekly publication.

God is at work in our world! He is using the short term experience to capture the heart of our people. It does not matter if it is a State Side trip to one of our CE churches, an inter city work team or a highly organized over sea’s trip. God is working in the hearts of team members. Nearly 90% of career missionaries caught their vision of the world on a short term trip. Many who promote missions in the local church by sitting on mission committees, serving on women’s groups, or are proactive in prayer and giving caught their vision by having the privilege of seeing the front lines.

I look forward to Wednesdays just to spend these few precious minutes with you! The BOM Office stands ready to serve your church’s short term needs in any way we can. Please make use of the expertise of Chris and Nelson. Take advantage of Culture Link and Dual Reach seminars offered by the BOM. This is God’s work, let’s be the best we can be!

Most of all, Keep Fishing!

Dana
