I can’t wait to
celebrate Easter! The bottom line for
all missionary trips career, short-term
ministry, or work team is the
advancement of the Gospel of Jesus
Christ! The word Gospel means Good News!
What greater good news do we have than
to proclaim?
HE IS RISEN! HE IS
RISEN INDEED!
God’s richest blessing on this very
special celebration! |

You have all heard by
now of the shooting that took place at a
Minn. School. The tragic deaths also
have a personal side as told by BFC
missionary Becky Pollock

Dear friends,
Many of you have already heard about
the tragic situation on the Red Lake
Indian Reservation. Tom and I have
been ministering to a family from
our church. Their 14 year-old
daughter, Alicia White was shot in
the head and died on arrival to the
hospital. Alicia was in our youth
group and was a professing
Christian. We spent all of last
evening til 2:30AM with the family
at the hospital until the body was
released for the autopsy. She lives
with her grandmother, Alberta, a
Christian and her 7 siblings,
Rodney, Andree, Ricky, Rowan and 2
twin 4 year-old girls. Her mother,
Theresa Spike is divorced from her
father, Rodney White and lives in
Minneapolis. Tom was asked to go
pick her up this morning. Please
pray for safety traveling today.
We received a phone call asking to
pray for another injured, Rudy
Green, age 15, who was shot in the
face/cheek. He was flown to Fargo
Hospital where he had a stroke and
is in bad condition. If he has
another stroke, he will not survive.
Many of these injured and dead were
about 14,15 years old. Another, Ryan
Auginash was a nephew to a good
friend of ours. He was shot in the
back and the bullet went into his
lungs. The bullet is still lodged in
his lungs.
Please pray that there will be no
retaliation between families of the
dead and injured and the suspect's
family.
Thank you so much. It means a lot to
Tom and I to know we can rely on our
friends around the country to pray
at a time as this.

Cindy Stevens is a BFC
missionary in the throngs of language
acquisition! Here are some of her
thoughts:
Arabic lessons are continually
tough and just a lot to absorb... it
is not just the verbs I need to
worry about, but almost all words
seem to be able to be made masculine
or feminine. The other day I said
"who is this girl" and was told that
The "this" I used was in the
masculine form, oh boy, and it also
can be made plural to agree with
plural objects. Sometimes I find
myself just thinking about what I
want to say and it seems like it
takes forever to compose in my head
as I go down my mental check list to
make everything agree in gender and
number. The other thing that is
tough is that even when I learn a
new word it is almost like I need to
learn it 9 ways because when the
pronoun is added to it it can sound
completely different, like a totally
new word I never even heard
before....When I get tempted to get
frustrated with the slow learning I
just keep telling myself that I know
more today than I did yesterday, and
that really seems to help encourage
me.
I am enjoying my classmate Debbie.
She is bilingual and picking things
up a bit faster than I am, so I was
feeling bad that I might be holding
back the class a little for her, but
on Friday after class she turned to
me and said, I am so glad that you
are in class with me, you really
make this so much fun. So I am glad
that I can at least be a little
comic relief =)!!
I am starting to form friendships
with other students and the teachers
as well, so that is a real blessing.
I am hoping to get out a bit more
and use and hear the Arabic on the
street. They speak so fast it is
hard for me to catch a lot of what I
thought I knew! So I will be happy
for the practice, and also to just
get out and do things. Please pray
with us about the next session of
lessons. They start in three weeks
and I think that I might move in
with a Moroccan family for that
month. So we need to consider which
family... there is a chance that I
could move in with one of my
teachers, her family lives in the
Medina, the old city, and she knows
English so could at least explain
words that I hear and tell me what
is going on... I know that her
family could use the extra income,
but I am not sure if they have extra
room in their house. So please just
be in prayer with us about this.
Thanks for all your thoughts
and encouragements!
Cindy

“93,
72, 82”
No, these are not the numbers for the
Daily Lotto nor the play for that last
minute touchdown in the Super Bowl. The
first two are the ages of the folks that
I recently have had the pleasure of
traveling with and one is the age of a
woman that will traveling with us to
Kosovo in April. Jim Myers is a member
of my wife’s church, First Baptist
Church in Bethlehem. In February I had
the pleasure of traveling with him and
others to LaPaz, Mexico. Jim is a very
blessed 93 year old man. I tell people
that he ate more than I did, probably
slept better than I did, and had just as
much fun with all the projects we
encountered. Most of you know Ron Hoyle,
he and his wife Doris served on the
field in France for forty years. Well,
two weeks ago he got on a plane with me
and seven others to Kosovo. What a
blessing he was to us, to the
missionaries and to those we visited and
ministered to. In April I will be
leading another team to Kosovo and one
of the team members is 82, I am sorry
but I don’t remember her name because we
have only met once, and as one of my
pastors says regularly, “my memory chip
is full!” However, the bottom line is
this. If you are over 65 and have
thought that you are too old to go on
short-term mission trip, please think
again. Should you want to talk with Jim
Myers or Ron Hoyle, I will put you in
touch with them. I am certain that the
82 year old woman will get along just as
well as the two men did! Thanks for all
your prayers, God Bless!

Money. Isn't it truly
one of the great tests of our faith? No
matter how much we as Christians try to
make money issues go away, God continues
to challenge us and test us when it
comes to money. No wonder He spends so
much time on it in His Word! -Jim
You Might Be a Rookie ...
Here are this week’s additions:
You might be a rookie short-termer if
. . .
- You say “I’m sorry I only speak
English”, only to find out that the
person WAS speaking English!
- You learn about 220 current
while holding a fried hair dryer in
your hand!
- After a bout of diarrhea you
learn that ice is just another form
of water!
- Standing with only a bar of soap
in the shower you realize that
wash-cloths are not used by most of
the world!
- You take the barf bag from the
airplane as a souvenir!
You can see the entire list AND send
