Adding a "pinch" of Christianity?

By Dana Weller
Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."

If you tell your classmates, teachers, or co-workers that you are going on a missions trip they will think it to be wonderful. After all adding a pinch of Christianity to world culture is a good thing so they think. All world religions have some good things to offer to mankind.

When you go on to explain that you are not interested in “adding a pinch” of Christianity to the culture you are serving this summer but to convert them FROM their ways TO the ONLY WAY –Jesus Christ then you will find extreme opposition!

Don’t be surprised if at this point your friends become irate with you accusing you of bigotry and being very naive of the inclusive philosophy of the post-modern world. There is NO toleration in today’s world for a concept that any one religion or faith belief system has exclusive rights to access to God!

God who ever he or she may be is tolerant, loving, and never intended a religious philosophy that is so restrictive. Man must strive to find God. Christianity is only one of the many ways of reaching that ultimate goal.

Simply remember:

  1. It is Jesus who makes the exclusive statement that He is the ONLY WAY to the Father.
  2. It is Peter who said: “There is no salvation by anyone else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”
  3. If you are not fully persuaded that the World needs Jesus and is totally lost without Him, then you have no right to do missions. After all that IS the message of missions!

Be a proclaimer of Jesus Christ the only way!

New Trips Registered

Dear Dana

I thought you might like to have the following information concerning the Work Team from Bethel Emmaus traveling to Vermont this summer. The largest team will be going from June 18th - July 3rd.

Projects include: Demolition of kitchen in Boy's home; Kitchen installation in the boy's home; Painting of bedrooms in girl's and boy's home, as well as in the Conference Center; overall Decorating in all three buildings; landscaping at Tim & Barb Hash's home. It's a lot of work, but the benefits are worth it!

In His Service,
Ed & Carol Wigfield

Brigada is an unusual name for a publication. Here is where the idea originated:

In 1942, Stalin, then leader of what used to be the USSR, banished some 200,000 Crimean Tatars from their home on the Black Sea. They were not permitted to return to their homeland en masse until the early nineties, when the Soviet Union broke apart. Unfortunately, since their homes had been confiscated by others, the Crimean Tatars were forced to rebuild entire settlements during the cold winters of 1990 and 1991. While living in Crimea, we saw, at times, literally dozens of Crimean Tatar families working together in what they called, in Russian, 'brigadas' (brigades), helping one another build homes in rapid fashion. They found, through experience, that working together produces synergy, i.e., the output is greater than the sum of the inputs. As Bill Taylor writes in Kingdom Partnerships, '... One draft horse can pull four tons. If you harnessed two draft horses together, they can pull twenty-two tons.' We need just this kind of 'brigada' and just this kind of synergy!

 Final Thoughts

Did you share your faith with anyone this week?

If you are going overseas this summer, many are making an investment in your life. Your leaders may be taking one or two weeks off of work, your church and many of your friends and family are contributing big bucks to make this event possible for you.
Have you ever thought of the integrity issue of going somewhere this summer to do missions work when your daily mission field goes basically “un-harvested”. Fisherers of Men is a Spirit quality placed upon your heart. It is something you do naturally because your Lord commanded you to do so.
One can not imagine that it is a quality that can be turned on and off at will. The reality is if you are not man fishing at school or on the job, what makes you think that you will suddenly become a man fisher when you are overseas this summer?

If you are signed up for a missions trip this summer, start this week to “fish”. There is no greater joy than leading someone to the Lord! There was a song we use to sing when I was just a child.

Lord lay some soul upon my heart
And love that soul through me
An may I ever do my part
To win that soul for thee.

Let’s make that our prayer this week!
