1.  Ministry Opportunity in Wissinoming

For ten years Wissinoming, Philadelphia, BFC has taken the initiative in connection with a neighborhood Independence Day commemoration. It has been concluded that the time has come for a recasting of these festivities for the sake of variety and perhaps the greater participation.

Most of what was part of the July 4th event is being shifted to Saturday, June 14 - Flag Day. As envisioned right now, there will be a patriotic parade around our local 42 acre
Wissinoming Park, followed by a formal flag raising and early afternoon musical program. March participants will begin gathering 11.00a.m. The parade and subsequent program starts at 12 noon.

Retained for Independence Day (Friday, July 4) will be the now traditional 5-k run/race around (3x) the park. Commemorative shirts will be given all runners and trophy awards will be received by the various winners. Preregistration is $10 and registration on the day of the event is $12. The registration table operates
8a.m. till 8.50, with the race starting at 9.00a.m.

Let us know if any of the above is of interest to you or if you have an idea to share. Help, support, participation and your prayers are all welcomed. Thanks

Dear Dana Weller,

In response to your last email, i was wondering about the team for Tanzania in November. I was wondering if I need to come up with 3 other people or if I could just go over and serve with others.  If you have any information, I'd appreciate it if you could send it to me.

Thank you,

Rachel Bechtel from the Lebanon BFC

(IF you are interested in being part of the Tanzania team in November please contact the BOM office at office@bfcbom.org).

URGENT repeat announcement!

////////////////

We are in desperate need of a ministry team to come to Blueberry for July 6-11 to present the gospel to 8-11 year olds through puppets, songs, stories or skits.  Please pray that we might find a church who can help us reach kids for Christ.  If we do not find a group top help soon, we will need to look at other options.  The only difficult thing is this week has been advertised as a week where puppets will be featured.  We are also looking for older teens to come and be counselors for three weeks.  We have none yet.  If you do nothing else besides pray, for this need of puppet ministry as well as guy and girl counselors for the summer camp program you have blessed us. Thank you.

6.  Packing Those Bags!

Picking up your baggage at airports can often take longer than anticipated, and there are several helpful tips travelers can keep in mind when traveling with extra bags.

Delays
If your bags are delayed upon arrival, the airline traditionally has a means of tracking them, and 98 percent of baggage is usually returned. If the luggage is sent on the next flight, you could wait a couple hours for return or have the airline company bring the luggage when it is found. However, if the bags are sent to another airport for any reason, it could take a number of days to have them returned. Additionally, many airline carriers will reimburse you for unexpected expenses caused by the delay.

Lost Baggage
In the case of baggage lost by the airline company, be certain you get a written claim for any possible damages, which can be picked up at the airport or by mail. The claim will be different, however, from the missing luggage forms you will be required to fill out at the airport. Traditionally, domestic flights rate airline baggage liability at $2,500 per person. For international flights, the airline baggage limit is $9.07 per pound for checked baggage, $400 per person for carry-on bags.

Stolen Bags
Visit the baggage claim area immediately upon departing your flight. The airlines will scan bags as they are loaded onto the carousel and keep records. However, once you leave the baggage claim area, you are required to file a report with the police.

Damaged Baggage
Check your bags immediately for damage or other signs of tampering during or after the flight. In the case of damaged baggage, additionally, airline customer service will often want to inspect the bag. It is likely you will be required to produce a receipt for any repairs, so be sure to ask the baggage-claim attendant at the airport for further information about this procedure.

Helpful Tips
Travelers should also keep in mind
several helpful tips when packing bags, such as the following:

  • Put your name on the outside and inside of your bags, and include a copy of your itinerary inside the baggage in case the airline carrier needs to find you.

  • Pack valuables inside your carry-on bags, including cameras, computers, jewelry, medication, passports and confirmation numbers.

  • Make sure the person checking your baggage attaches the correct destination ticket to every checked bag, and you should have a claim ticket for each bag.

According to the latest statistics from the Department of Transportation from January to March of 2003 there was an average of 4.76 reports of mishandled baggage per 1,000 passengers for U.S. airlines.

8. Happenings at the Valley

Victory Valley is having a neighborhood yard sale on Saturday, May 24, 2003.  You are welcome to come or donate items to be sold to benefit Victory Valley Camp.  However, this is not a garbage run for that spring house cleaning you just did.  They have to be reasonably resalable.

Youth Groups are invited to Victory Valley Camp on Thursday, June 19, 2003, for a TEEN OPEN HOUSE.  It is 4 PM thru 8:30 PM with the opportunity to meet summer staff and to do many of the activities around camp.  Please contact the camp if your youth group is interested in coming .  VVCAMP@aol.com

9.  Final Thought

Jesus calls us not only to come to Him, but to go for Him!

When were you called into God’s grace?  I am sure each of you could give a glowing testimony of your coming to faith in Christ.  Many could give the exact date, some the very hour.

God has also called you to go!...  to go into His world with the Good News.  He has created you with special abilities and given you a special Spirit gift.  Are you as certain of His calling to go as you are of His calling to come?

You who will have the privilege of doing some kind of short term ministry this summer will find out much about yourselves.  The experience will stretch you, it will change you.  Have you HOWEVER already been shaped into the servant of God that God wants you to be?  Don’t wait to become a missionary of the Gospel, be a missionary of the Gospel.  Do you think you will somehow magically be transformed into some kind of spiritual giant when you arrive at your place of service?  Of course not, you will arrive the very same person you are now.  So get started now.  To quote a popular slogan;  Be all that you can be!  I challenge you to upgrade that slogan to;

Be all that you can be RIGHT NOW!

Most of all, Keep Fishing!

Dana
