Now there is a contradiction! Although it has been a great recruiting tool for the military, it has caused great turmoil within the ranks. The slogan smacks in the face the very core value of interdependency so needed in battle. “While the rank and file are appalled by the slogan and the message it sends, the Army's senior leaders are pleased with the positive response from the target audience and ignore the contradictions.” (This statement is from a recent editorial in a military journal).
Let’s get one thing straight. In the ranks of the soldiers in the Kingdom of God, there is NO PLACE for the “one”! From recruitment to the battle field, it is imperative to promote the team. We use the term “short term team”. One recently said to me, “I am going ALONE on a missions trip this summer, should I register my trip in Let’s Fish?” My answer was “ABSOLUTLY!” There is a sense that all of you reflected in the trips recorded in item #5 below are part of one team. If you are one or a part of a team of twenty, you are part of the “troops” being sent out into God’s harvest field. DON”T forget that everyone who invested financially into your trip and those committed to pray for you are also part of the team. Make sure you do everything possible to ensure that all of your partners are fully involved.
An army of one makes as much sense as attempting to play football by yourself.
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labor of each. For we are God's servants, working together; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. –Paul
Dear Pastor Weller,
I took your recommendation and got Speaking of Jesus, by Mack Stiles. It was wonderful. I read it through in two days and now I need to go back and pray about putting it into practice.
I found that Mack Stiles wrote a book on short term missions trips too. I'm halfway through it and I think it's wonderful. He has such a wealth of stories from his experience!
I'm having radical thoughts. I was thinking about what is said about being a missionary here in America too, and sharing our faith where we live and stuff. Only whenever one of us goes overseas we all gather round and support them and pray for them and they send us updates and prayer requests and stuff. If we're supposed to be missionaries over here, shouldn't we be mutually supporting each other like that all the time? I'm not sure what this should look like, but I wanted to run it by you.

Greetings from Tanzania!
Trying to be faithful in getting prayer updates out every few weeks - a friend of mine and myself were recently challenged by the biography of a missionary to China -James Fraser. Only through believing prayer can God bring blessings upon the work - prayer is the real work of missions. " We are, as it were, God's agents - used by Him to do His work, not ours. We do our part, and then can only look to Him, with others, for His blessing. If this is so, then Christians at home can do as much for foreign missions as those actually on the field." Keep praying!
Kim
Keep those letters rolling in!!!
As we have begun to help out in preparations for summer camp, here in Montana, we've discovered some opportunities we wanted to run by you which you might share on your teen email news, etc. Big Sky Bible Camp - Bigfork, MT - has the following opportunities:
10th Grade-Graduates: Each week of the summer there will be opportunity for High Schoolers to work at camp. You may choose to work mainly in the kitchen or mainly in physical chores (painting, landscaping, brushing, cleaning, etc.) around camp. There will be a Bible Study time each day with an emphasis on serving the Lord in a camping ministry.
Senior or Graduate: Several young people will be chosen to work in the Junior Counselor program. Junior Counselors will have training sessions in counseling as well as assist the counselors throughout the day. There will be one Junior Counselor session: August 5-16.
College Students: We can use many college age folks for camp counselor positions. We ESPECIALLY need guys, at this point!! But there are still a few women spots that need filling, as well.
